The London Tan Project: Why Your Seat Should Match Your Bags

There is a difference between a bike that has "bags on it" and a bike that looks "finished." That difference is usually in the details.

Most riders buy black bags because their seat is black. It's safe. It matches. But when you want to stand out, you go custom. And if you’re going to upgrade your leather, you shouldn't stop at the saddlebags.

The "London Tan" Build

We recently completed a full touring suite for a customer who wanted to break away from the standard black-on-black look. She chose our "London Tan" Steerhide—a rich, vibrant leather that screams "custom" from a mile away.

The Challenge: Unifying the Look

If we had just sent her the US01 Saddlebags in London Tan, they would have looked great, but they might have clashed with her stock black vinyl seat. To make the bike look like a complete thought, we needed to bring the seat into the equation.

The Solution: The Full Suite

The customer sent us her seat pan and driver backrest. We stripped the factory cover and re-upholstered everything in the exact same hide we used for the bags.

  • The Seat: Re-covered in heavy-duty steerhide for superior comfort and durability.
  • The Backrest: Matched perfectly to the seat.

  • The Bonus: We added a Backrest Bag directly to the rear of the driver backrest, giving her a convenient spot for his phone and wallet that blends seamlessly into the design.

Why Leather Seats are Better

Factory seats are almost always vinyl. Vinyl gets hot, it doesn't breathe, and it cracks over time. Our Vegetable Tanned Steerhide breathes, stays cooler in the sun, and breaks in to the shape of your body like a good baseball glove.

Want to Match Your Gear?

You don't have to settle for mismatched leathers. If you are ordering a set of custom bags, ask us about re-covering your seat to match. It’s the ultimate upgrade for your bike's aesthetic.
